Wineries & Breweries – Near Prince Frederick, MD

One thing Southern Maryland in general and Calvert County specifically has, and that is vintners and brewers. Folks who love beer and wine and make it their craft and specialty and take care to make a good libation. Please, if you go to any of these places, drink responsibly.

This vineyard is in Prince Frederick and is modeled after a Tuscany villa. They have live music and tastings on select weekends and have many events. Calvert Brewing Company has a beer garden on their vineyard (small-batch brews are for sale there at the tasting room.)  They are also available for private events as well. This particular vineyard is part of the Patuxent Wine Trail!

Cove Point Winery

755 Cove Point Rd, Lusby, MD   410.326.0949

This winery is pretty close to Prince Frederick, and a short distance from the Cove Point Lighthouse which is Maryland’s oldest operational lighthouse! This winery has 9 wines that they have chosen from various growers in the southern MD area, including their own. They are a small, experimental vineyard and endeavor to produce wines that a non-wine drinker would enjoy.

Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery

This winery and vineyard is open on weekends for tastings and have events on their calendar. You can even book their vineyard for weddings, reunions, parties or other events. Perigeaux has live music all year long at their winery, so when you go for a tasting on the weekend, be sure to check their website to see what events are happening.

Port of Leonardtown Winery

23190 Newtowne Neck Rd P.O.Box 535 Leonardtown, MD 20650 301.690.2192

You may well wonder why this one is included – wonder no more! This is actually a cooperative (of the few in the US) and it includes St Mary’s, Charles, Calvert, and Kent counties. This winery consists of 12 member vineyards and the tasting room is located in a repurposed historic commercial building. It is in the boundaries of the Port of Leonardtown Public Park. So it is not technically IN Calvert County, but it has ties to it. They do have many events and since there are 12 wineries using this facility, it is well worth checking out!

Solomons Island Winery

14575 Solomons Island Rd S, Solomons, MD 20688   410.394.1933 (tasting room)

https://solomonsislandwinery.com/

So this particular vintner has moved their tasting room to the pier on Solomon’s Island with a view of the water. Their wines are not all created from local grapes and they also offer wines from France, Italy and Spain to sample. This is not far at all from Prince Frederick and being on the Patuxent Wine trail, it is worth a stop, especially when the sun is going down.

For anyone who enjoys a nice wine or a small batch beer, it is available locally near Prince Frederick, if not in the town limits. The Patuxent Wine Trail is a nice way to spend a day or weekend finding new places, making new friends and enjoying the charm of Southern Maryland.
